A Boston developer will open the next phase of its Schertz master-planned community early this year, adding another leading local homebuilder to the site.

Chesmar Homes will join Perry Homes and CastleRock Communities in a new portion of Homestead by Freehold Communities, which will add 119 lots to the site off I-35 at Homestead Parkway. 223 homes out of 1,470 total lots have been built and sold so far at Homestead.

“A premium location in Schertz on the I-35 corridor between San Antonio and New Braunfels, in close proximity to Randolph Air Force Base, has allowed Homestead to emerge as one of the most desirable communities in this market,” said Matt Matthews, Texas division president for Freehold Communities, in a news release.

Homestead Commons, the amenity center for the community, includes a pool, a splash pad, an outdoor pavilion and a playground.

Freehold is developing 15,000 residential units in mixed-use and master-planned communities across the country. Its other Texas communities include Headwaters in Dripping Springs and Orchard Ridge in Liberty Hill.

Perry Homes and Chesmar Homes ranked No. 1 and No. 3, respectively, among the largest residential builders in San Antonio based on 2019 sales volume, according to Business Journal research.
