Meet Cortney Pickett: Homestead’s Lifestyle Director

At Homestead, a new home community located in Schertz, Texas, you’ll find gorgeous new homes and a variety of resort-style amenities. But one of the most unique things about Homestead is the fun-filled lifestyle and close-knit sense of community. This wouldn’t be possible without our full-time Lifestyle Director, Cortney Pickett, who plans the events and activities that bring residents together.
Cortney is from Honolulu, Hawaii, but has lived in Texas for over 10 years. She’s lived in the Schertz area for some time, and after seeing the growth over the last few years, she knew she wanted to stay. Homestead’s rural feel and sense of community drew her to the neighborhood, and the Lifestyle Director role was a perfect fit. “I was given the opportunity to plan a national conference [while in college],” she said. “My role encompassed many things, but the most fulfilling one was planning and executing the welcome ceremony. I would say that is when I fell in love with the idea of becoming an event planner.”
Cortney has big plans for the lifestyle at Homestead. “The programming for the upcoming year is focused on bringing the community together in various ways,” she said. “From celebrating Fiesta to birthdays, my goal is to enjoy every moment that we have with one another, big or small.”
She’s even taken on the challenge of keeping the lifestyle alive during the current pandemic. Virtual craft classes, drive-in movies, fitness and wellness opportunities are all on the calendar. “With safety being our top priority, we’ve had to adjust our programming,” explained Cortney. “It’s not that we can’t gather. It’s that we can’t gather how we are accustomed to.”
With the most elaborate amenity center in the area, there is a lot for Cortney to work with at Homestead, but she’s most excited about the oversized lawn and all the opportunities it presents. She also thinks that families will love the pool and splash pad the most. “[But] when it comes to military families, I believe that they would love the close-knit feel of Homestead. Every neighbor becomes a friend and often part of your extended family,” she said.
“I want prospective residents to know that Homestead is your home away from home,” said Cortney. “Whether you’re a Texas native, from overseas, or out-of-state, you’ll feel right at home and you’ll never want to leave.”
